Description :
Secluded cottage resort with five beaches Set on a 30-acre peninsula between the ocean and a large bay on the west end, this resort features five beaches and pink cottages. Accommodations consist of ocean-view, air-conditioned rooms, suites, and individual cottages, one dating to the late 17th century. Tranquil resort, a health spa, indoor and outdoor pools, and an aura of Bermudian history draw an international clientele. The resort offers 94 guestrooms and suites in one- and two-story pink-and-white cottages scattered over a 30-acre peninsula on Bermuda's west side. Some cottages are available only as complete units. One cottage dates from the late 17th century. Others date from the early 1800s when they housed workers for the British Royal Naval Dockyard about 3 miles north. These still bear the names of their last residents. Some cottages began being used for guests in the 1920s, and the resort grew by buying other cottages over the decades. Now, all buildings on the peninsula are part of the resort. All rooms, suites, and cottages are air-conditioned and also include ceiling fans as a cooling alternative. Ground-floor patios or second-floor balconies come furnished with lounge chairs and dining sets. CD player/AM-FM radios as well as televisions with U.S. cable channels and pay movies offer entertainment. Adjacent to a seafarers'-type tavern, a wall festooned with the names of longtime guests attests to the resort's capacity to inspire loyalty. Widely spaced on the 30-acre peninsula and separated by lawns and flowering gardens, guest cottages occupy rolling terrain, forming a pink-and-white community under coconut palms and ancient Flamboyant trees. The open Atlantic Ocean borders the resort's north side, and Mangrove Bay borders its south side. Tranquility reigns. Children under age 5 are not permitted. Five pink-sand beaches are on the peninsula. The largest, Long Bay, runs 125 yards along the open Atlantic Ocean and is furnished with thatch shades and lounge chairs. Long Bay Café offers lunch and tropical drinks next to the beach. Two pools provide freshwater swimming. An indoor pool with retractable skylight roof is part of a health-and-beauty spa. A heated, 45-foot-square outdoor pool includes a large sundeck furnished with lounge chairs and umbrellas and offers a poolside bar. Steps lead from the pool deck to Morning Beach on Mangrove Bay. Concierge tip: Three days weekly, the resort provides complimentary 20-minute ferry rides to downtown Hamilton for shopping, dining, and sightseeing. The resort's health-and-beauty spa features a 30-by-15-foot indoor pool.

Driving Directions : Bermuda International Airport (BDA): Approximate driving time is 45 minutes and distance is 18 miles. Getting there: Rental cars are not allowed by the government but a government-licensed shuttle service, Bee Line Transport, meets all flights. Trips to the hotel can be arranged at the Bee Line desk outside the arrivals hall for $34 per person round trip. (The Bermuda dollar is on par with the US dollar and US dollars are widely accepted.) Metered taxi fare is more than $36. The hotel can also pre-arrange pick-up for a flat fee (more than $36) for 1-4 passengers. Fees subject to change without notice. Public buses leave from the departures area but do not allow luggage on board. Getting around: If speed is important, taxis are the best way to get around: they are readily available and taxi drivers are well-known as knowledgeable tour guides. If not, buses are reliable, convenient, and much cheaper. Bermuda does not allow visitors to rent cars but its bus service is popular with both residents and visitors alike. Pink buses stop in Mangrove Bay, a block from the hotel, and travel to Hamilton in 45 minutes. Single fares are less than $5 but a better deal is the bus pass (1-day: $5-$15 and 3-days: $16-$25) which is also good for ferry travel. Nearest public ferries leave from Watford Bridge and Dockyard; and from the terminal on Front St in Hamilton for Paget, Warwick, Dockyard, St. George's, Rockaway, and Somerset with most single fares less than $5. Fees subject to change without notice. Schedules vary according to season and day of the week. Guests can also walk to nearby Somerset Village for shops and restaurants; many rent bicycles ($16-$25 a day) or the even more popular mopeds (more than $36 a day) on the hotel property. Driving is on the left side of the road. Horse-drawn carriages are a Bermuda tradition and can be found next to the ferry terminal on Front St in Hamilton. Prices start in the $26-$35 range. Fees subject to change without notice.Shuttle vans or private cars of varying prices are available. They can be selected during the process of booking an air-inclusive reservation for this hotel, via this Web site, and added to the total trip cost.
